Interview with Melissa Xiao Xue Han Ruiz at Thursday 18th of April 2019 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? MH: The main idea of this design was to create a beautiful bottle that was unique in its kind, dynamic and at the same time could represent Mexico and the beauty of the Aztec culture. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? MH: More than anything, the goal is to make Mezcal known, to break the idea that Tequila and Mezcal are the same things. since abroad Tequila is a more popular product, that makes people think that the two Mexican beverages are tequila. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? MH: I would like this design to become a product that can be marketed, that not only remains as a prototype design, that can be sold, that can reach the hands of mezcal lovers, that it reaches the hands of new consumers. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? MH: This project started at the end of 2016 as an idea for my thesis, from the beginning I focused all my ideas on something symbolic of Mexico and that is how Skall was born. This project took me about 6 months. After my graduation, I have dedicated myself to improve and add more details to Skall. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? MH: As a thesis project, I've always had the dream of creating something related to Mexico, that's why when I started the project I got involved in alcoholic beverages and Mexican culture. My design passion is in beverages design. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? MH: I will look for some sources of information and production to launch my design as a real product, since the day I had my finished project in my hands, I promised myself to launch it by myself or sell it to a brand. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? MH: I want to dedicate my career to the design of alcoholic beverages, and my goal is to learn more about the manufacture of the bottles, the labels and materials. That's why from the university I immersed myself in this branch of beverage design. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? MH: In this project, my sister Karina Han, also a designer helped me with photography and as always to be the best judge to give me more ideas and improve my design.
