Interview with Zhang Shouze at Tuesday 23rd of April 2019 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? SZ: Along with the steady advancement of AI and big data technologies, the demand grows increasingly strong for simultaneous capture of large scenes view and details. The whole industry is in desperate need of a new product adaptive to the status quo of data collection. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? SZ: how to drive the horizontal and vertical movement of three modules in one device? High-speed analysis requires the detail-capturing camera to move at high speed. Then how can we ensure precise positioning of the quickly moving motor and prevent the influence of inertia? This is the biggest challenge we face. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? SZ: To replace the existing messy products. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? SZ: From concept to product for one year. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? SZ: Previously, data collection depended on combined use of dome cameras and box cameras. The product is incomplete and installed in a complex manner, and it is also poorly adaptive to varying environments. Moreover, the operator is required to implement debugging aloft again. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? SZ: Our company's self-developed products. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? SZ: Through the analysis of customer needs and analysis of existing application defects, we found that this is necessary. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? SZ: Help from the internal team. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? SZ: Police and other law enforcement agencies. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? SZ: All in one FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? SZ: Integrate hardware and integrate data. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? SZ: this product unprecedentedly integrates into one device three modules that can rotate horizontally and vertically, using star-grade low light 4K lens modules to cover large scenes. The interlinked 37x optical zoom star-grade dome camera can present details precisely. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? SZ: Help from the internal team. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? SZ: Before the development of this product, we have got mature algorithms in place, So this project was promoted. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? SZ: After carefully studying the combination methods and motions, we decided to adopt the dual-side-ear design which sets very few limits on operating environments. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? SZ: how to drive the horizontal and vertical movement of three modules in one device? High-speed analysis requires the detail-capturing camera to move at high speed. Then how can we ensure precise positioning of the quickly moving motor and prevent the influence of inertia? This is the biggest challenge we face. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? SZ: Because this design is advanced, it has been unanimously recognized by customers.
