Interview with Hind Al Aayadhi at Sunday 24th of February 2019 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? HA: My main idea behind this design is to create a way to organize children Eidyahs (gift money notes handed to children on the festive occasion of Eid, which is a Muslim celebration). Aiming to make children happy with the envelope, and making it easier for parents to distribute The Eidyah in an easy, organized and a beautiful manner FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? HA: I wanted to please both children and parents in the process of giving (Eidyah). And especially I wanted to create a durable envelope that can be opened and closed as many times without needing to tear the envelope apart. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? HA: Every Year, before the holy month of Ramadhan, I begin designing a new packaging concept for the Eid. Maintaining the high-quality standard as well as trying to take it forward to the next level. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? HA: Around a month and a half FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? HA: In the beginning, I noticed the need to organize the way Eidyah is being distributed. Year after year, the demand is getting higher on purchasing the envelope collections FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? HA: Until now, I am in charge of producing and selling the envelope collection. It has been sold in Bahrain, United Arab Emirates as well as Saudi Arabia FS: What made you design this particular type of work? HA: I have a deep passion for stationery, it makes my eyes spark and generates so much happiness to my life. I think this is one of the main reasons behind the thinking of designing the envelope collections. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? HA: Not really, I get my inspiration mostly of nature FS: Who is the target customer for his design? HA: Mostly ladies, and mothers FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? HA: The unique clasps of the envelopes, the high quality of the paper, as well as the vibrant colors of the envelope collections FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? HA: I chose the name Eidyah, because it is a name that is used very commonly in the GCC region for the money notes that are given by parents to children on the festive occasion of Eid which is a Muslim celebration. I wanted a name that is simple and direct. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? HA: Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? HA: It is to some point important in the local culture that the money notes (Eidyah) are new and crisp. The envelopes are designed specifically not to bend the money notes, and that it can be used for multiple times and to for one-time use. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? HA: I have worked on this design by myself FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? HA: Being able to illustrate digitally has played a major role in the creation of this design. It transforms my ideas from the pen and paper stage to the finished product that is produced FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? HA: I rely on social media, especially Instagram surveys to get to know the customer needs. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? HA: I faced a minor challenge in deciding the perfect weight of the paper envelope that will make the clasp closes perfectly in a smooth way. The printing press was very helpful in guiding me to select the perfect paper weight for this matter FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? HA: An email was sent to me regarding the envelopes from a design award FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? HA: That there is always room for improvement, that paying attention to little details is difficult yet very rewarding, and to trust my inner voice. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? HA: I am very thankful for being able to share my designs and thoughts to the world, thankful for the journey of this design, beginning with a simple idea and developing it to a product to participate in a prestigious design competition
