Interview with Evgeny Arinin at Thursday 2nd of May 2019 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? EA: The main ideas was to develop a simple yet functional and elegant designed table lamp by the use of utilitarian principles and materials. Comfortable dimensions and parts connections make the lamp easy to operate while making the overall shape and style suitable for any space. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? EA: The main focus is to celebrate the idea of functionality, excluding the meaning of art and re-inventing the the idea of simplicity. The overall design is made out of the use the simple form as pipe, bended and catted in such manneer so its forms the aesthetically pleased object even without the use of color painting. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? EA: The product is already in produced. It would be available as a limited edition. Only 1 piece in a world. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? EA: The first sketch was created in 2012 and was developed in 2019 in 2 months from beginning till the production process. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? EA: It was always interesting to create something but most of the objects we existed only on the paper. This year I have decided to make them real and the table lamp is the first product i decided to realise thanks to it history. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? EA: Its already in production and would be finished by the end of the summer. The only one piece would be available for the purchase. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? EA: The target customer is a 25-45 aged person, who has its private personal home office and spent a lot of hours on the table works with papers. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? EA: Its design is unique by the idea and concept of art installation or even fine-art. It is existing as a piece of art in one original piece and that makes sense in comparison with similar table lamps which are mass produced by the use of cheap materials and cheap production. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? EA: Lumin is just a simple word which sounds nasty and softly. It for some reason has an abstract but easy to remember name. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? EA: The main tool was the imagination. The paper, pencil and 3d tools for further visualisation. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? EA: My design is always simple, aestheticaly pleased with clear function and utilitarian concept of production. It has natural materials with its natural color with high-end finishing and hidden secure parts connection. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? EA: The role of technology is huge while the design is not easy to mass produced. The simplicity of the design is faced with complexity of the production and that makes the design unique. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? EA: Its always interesting if yours ideas worth something and the contest is a great possibility to find the answer.
