Interview with Fernando Pastre Fertonani at Thursday 23rd of May 2019

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
FP: To develop a product to be unique in the market. Something that could be a icon for the brand and could reflect all the company values and philosophy for the future.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
FP: Iconic was a constant word in my mind. It had to be something clean and refined, a product that would get attention but at the same time could not be aggressive. It had to have personality but as the same time it should visual fits easy every environment it would be in.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
FP: Six months.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
FP: It was commissioned by the company.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
FP: It is already being produced.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
FP: People who has high-end taste, that wants more than a spa bath but a design piece, and someone who is looking for a product to bring a new experience and a new concept in terms of relaxation.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
FP: New materials application, production processes and the clean lines and shapes bringing the perfect balance between form and function.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
FP: The 'Curie' name, also reflects the grandeur of the product, referring to one of the greatest icons of the history, Marie Curie, associated always with pioneering, innovation and technology.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
FP: Hand sketching, Digital sketching and 3D modeling.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
FP: Its shapes and the connectivity with the user.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
FP: I worked together with the Riolax engineering and production team.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
FP: To creative a complete new experience for the user and to improve processes during production.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
FP: To really study and go deep into the spas, baths and hotubs world, how they are produced, technical limitations and research ways to innovate.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
FP: It had an amazing acceptance by public during it release and was featured in lots of medias.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
FP: I learn a lot of production processes and improved my knowledge about industrial processes.
