Interview with Takis Samartzis at Thursday 23rd of May 2019 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? PS: The combination of high speed, comfort, luxury and safety in one speed r.i.boat. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? PS: COSMIC 39 is an evolution among the R.I.B shipyarding.Not only the hull design and costruction , but also the design and the implementation of the deck. I wanted to combine speed with comfort , appealling both the speeders as well as the luxury lovers . FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? PS: To spread this product all over the world, conquering a place among the best boats. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? PS: It tooks me a year and a half to finish this project FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? PS: It was my idea , my inspiration, and my desire to build and have a rib so unique as nothing else before FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? PS: My intention is to produce this r.i.b by my company TROPIDA. It will require a lot of funds, effords, and time. But i believe that i can make it. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? PS: I love the sea, speed-boats, high speed, and my desire is to make speed boats also usable. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? PS: No, i design always original and unique projects FS: Who is the target customer for his design? PS: My target group customers are the speeders who doesn't want to compromise the luxury and the comforτ of a cruiser . FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? PS: The innovations, and the hull and deck's design aesthetics makes Cosmic 39 unique. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? PS: Cosmic is a greec word meaning universal. Everything is in Cosmic. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? PS: My mind, my hands, my heart, simple grafic tools , ruler, rubber, drawing table , and at the end Rino program for 3d FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? PS: The close tubes at the aft and the main console FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? PS: For the hull design i worked with Adam Younger . For the implementation of the design , i worked with some specialist, as Miltos Salvanos for 3d , and Ilias Prassas illustrator FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? PS: We have used electro-hydraulic mechanisms with electronic control for the ship's vessel and sub-parts. Also the latest technology materials for the construction of the hull and deck. Techniques for aerodynamic and hydrodynamic design has been used also. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? PS: For the hydrodynamic study of the hull : We used a hull model in 1:20 into a measuring test tank For the aerodynamic study of the vessel :We used a vessel model in 1:20 in an aerodynamic tube that we creates for the specific purpose FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? PS: The main challenge was to create a usable, comfortable, and luxurious r.i.b without losing any of the performance of a hi performance rib. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? PS: Βecause I believe that this boat has a special personality and is very unique. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? PS: Each project that you implement allows you to take another step for the better. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? PS: For all of the above, too much power is not necessary, It can work wonderfully and with less power
