Interview with Amruta Thakkar at Monday 1st of April 2019

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
AT: A stage or platform and a light to highlight the performer, inspired us to highlight the product with track lights and creating a dark grey background to enhance the display.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
AT: Through out the space, we discretely and respectfully restrained the materials, forming a palette of dark grey and bronze-golden shades, subtly different. The limited colour scheme offers a distinct atmosphere helping to focus the attention to display.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
AT: The project is executed and we have got a contract for their upcoming franchise in Ahmedabad.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
AT: It took almost 12 to 15 days to complete the design process.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
AT: We decided to pursuit it as we wanted to give a fresh look to a very traditional product selling shop. The focus was to highlight the product, while not compromising on the functional aspects.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
AT: NA

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
AT: Consideration of Context, functional aspects and all tangible & intangibles of the space, lead us to meet the client's aspirations. His only brief was "The product should be highlighted" The design is a product of our interpretation of client's brief.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
AT: No

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
AT: NA

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
AT: Consideration of all Tangible & Intangible aspects of the space and application of essence of aspirations is what makes it different from other concepts.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
AT: This is a name of the Brand and client has given this in the name of Lord Ganesh, before 50 years.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
AT: We used Auto Cad, Photoshop, 3D max, Sketch up, walk through and we also made physical models of design elements.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
AT: Sticking true to its context and interactive spaces within the space.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
AT: 3 vision - for walk throughs and renderings.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
AT: The interactive screens, displaying live telecast of product manufacturing. Showing how the product is made and how the hygiene level is maintained, assures the best quality product.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
AT: Research was done on the shopping tendencies, customer comfort, Anthropometry, Peak business timings and surveys had been conducted.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
AT: Managing services and movement in production unit and retail. Showcasing the retail character amongst the residential set up. Interpretation of client's brief. To give fresh, contemporary touch to a very conventional product selling shop.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
AT: People from fraternity inspired to participate as this is a prestigious Award, globally.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
AT: The format is very well designed so our documentation skills improved.

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
AT: NO

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
