Interview with Faldo Andreo at Wednesday 24th of April 2019 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? FH: As demanded to be a new pride of Indonesia, I did put much effort to express "unity in diversity" in the design, while in the same time I have to realize the dream of developer team in making Santorini-like Resort in Lombok Island. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? FH: My main focus is to create memorable experience for guests as soon as they stepped in the location. I do believe that if I could make unforgettable great moments while they are staying here, it would be a successful resort. All are expressed in the architecture design. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? FH: I hope this could make a great impact in architecture industry and be such a blessing for the users, company and both local people and international guests. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? FH: It took a whole month just to brainstorm everything carefully and another 2 months for finalizing the design to be a proper architectural plan. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? FH: The Property developer team wants a Resort that feels like Santorini and make use of the topography. I did a research and some analysis to work on their demand, needs, data and the future market to make best suitable design that could be a breakthrough but not sacrificing any of the demand. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? FH: This design is created for Malika Resort (PT. Bukit Mas Kuta), a property developer company. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? FH: All of my design, including this design is made through detailed planning and analysis in Architectural Studies. It is something that designed as something that have to be, not wanted to be. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? FH: I am admiring the works from Foster and Zaha Hadid. I got a lot of inspiration from their designs. It does influence me, but instead of following, I prefer to be as original as possible and make my own style of design. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? FH: As part of Tanjung Siung, this resort will welcome international guests for international events and multi-sport events, including notable invitees. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? FH: I believe that this design could not be found and experienced nowhere else as an ocean view resort that have open air concept and diversified buildings that integrated into one unity. A true paradise that people only see it in movies all this time. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? FH: The name is from the developer team as the name of the resort. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? FH: I am using multiple software in making this project. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? FH: User experience that expresses through architecture elements and floor plan. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? FH: As this project is a part of big project, I did a lot of meetings and discussions with developer team to synchronize everything in harmony with other buildings and the site. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? FH: Technology helps a lot in my planning from brainstorming to video processing. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? FH: Yes. It is a must to have a proper feasibility studies that balanced by architectural studies before stepping into the design process. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? FH: As this is a part of big project, a place for international events that have a lot of other projects, I have to do a lot of discussion with developer team to have a synced ideas without disrupting others FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? FH: I believe that international design competition like A Design Award will help a lot in international recognition and brings me to a whole new level. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? FH: I did learn many things, especially in communication. Bigger project needs a better communication to actualize the idea.
