Interview with Minyi Zhang at Sunday 18th of February 2018 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? MZ: The main principle is to design ergonomic features in the function to achieve the same time, we consider the effect of aesthetic appearance. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? MZ: We hope to innovate a family-style fitness center where people often go to the fitness center alone. Family-style fitness center, parents and children participate in sports together. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? MZ: With more encouragement of parents and children to participate in fitness activities, a healthy body is very important for the children of the next generation. Nowadays kids are obsessed with video games and their parents are focusing on social networking. Family-style fitness center can enhance the feelings between children and parents. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? MZ: The project took about a year and a half from conception to its completion. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? MZ: The first customer to contact us is to think of us as an alternative project, but this style is based on the concept of Livat Mall (ikea shopping center). FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? MZ: Yingcong He/CAD Qijun Zhong/3D FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? MZ: First, the project is larger, but no natural light enters the room. We have to make reasonable arrangements for all the use of space, members can not allow boring indoors, no vitality. Second, customers want to make an IKEA-style, artistic place rather than an IKEA store.
