Interview with Maria Laura Lucchetti - Lalla's at Thursday 3rd of May 2018 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? ML: The idea was to create a self-closure necklace. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? ML: I wanted to create a necklace that could be closed on the front without showing a closure. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? ML: I would like to distribute this in the best design and fashion concept stores. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? ML: Designing was easy, developing the design not so easy, it took me some months to find the right materials . FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? ML: It is part of my Design Jewelry Collection called Pianeti. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? ML: For now I produce my own work. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? ML: My creativity...the need to realize something I only imagined possible but wasn't sure it could be done until I completed the first prototype. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? ML: NO, it's just an evolution of the basic Lalla's Pianeti collection you can find on my website www.lallas.it FS: Who is the target customer for his design? ML: Women and men who love wearing an Italian handmade piece of art and not just a necklace. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? ML: This necklace has a unique design , has been made totally by hand and there are 5 different suppliers of materials. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? ML: As I said before it's part of my Pianeti range. It means Planets, in this range there are round objects ( Murano glass pearls in this case ) sliding on a thread just like planets rotate in their orbit. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? ML: Mainly my hands and pliers. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? ML: The necklace closure. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? ML: 5 different Italian suppliers. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? ML: None. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? ML: It was difficult to make the idea of the closure work . FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? ML: I don't know, I thought it might have been an interesting challenge and eventually a great thing winning. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? ML: No thank you.
