Interview with Knót Artesanal at Sunday 29th of April 2018 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? KH: Triz was designed to be a versatile lamp that can be used in many ways. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? KH: Production for us is just as important as design, we are us much furniture makers as we are designers and so far every piece we've produced from the initial idea though the construction to the finishes has been done by us alone. Having said given the right conditions for leasing or selling the design it is an option that we would certainly consider. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? KH: Triz can be used virtually anywhere, in any room of the house for example, it is also suited to public spaces such as galleries or restaurants. Combined with the fact that it can be used in a variety of ways it really is a lamp for all places. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? KH: It's defined by its versatility really, it is not a wall lamp, nor a table lamp nor a hanging lamp but all three together. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? KH: The name Triz comes from a phrase in Portuguese but is also a variation of tri/triangle and has a short, delicate and crisp sound which to us creates the right feel. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? KH: The wall hanging mechanism is fairly unique given that with just one screw you can achieve six different positions and not only that but itself has been designed as an aesthetic feature resembling a dragonfly and so when visible doesn't detract from the design but enhances it. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? KH: This design as with all of our designs is a combination of a modern design process combined with a traditional construction techniques. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? KH: We both felt that it was something worthy to be submitted and worthy of recognition.
