Interview with Steve Roberts at Thursday 29th of August 2019 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? SR: An essential aspect of the re-design was to retain the instantly recognisable paper plane, a symbol that epitomises the fun, free brand aspect, integral to Flings identity. The new logo now has a totally custom script typeface to represent the uniqueness of personality, reflective of the users of the app, each having their own reason and perspective when sending a message (or Fling), with the connection of letters representing the social connection and the journey of a message the app provides. The slanted text gives an instant injection of energy and dynamism. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? SR: The main reason for the re-design was that the previous logo lacked character, looked static and on a whole failed to represent what the Fling app has become. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? SR: The logo itself took around 3-4 weeks, the accompanying visuals took a lot longer. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? SR: It was commissioned
