Interview with David Chang Design Associates Intl at Monday 1st of May 2017 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? DC: Poly Garden Presentation Center is situated in Zhaoqing at the west Pearl River Delta, 110 km northwest of Guangzhou. This is where the old and the new coalesce to create a new urbanized metropolitan city. The design was inspired by local culture derived from the Song Dynasty mixed with Corinthian classic architectural elements embedded into the noble background of the Pearl River. This facility was created as the presentation and sales center for the Poly Garden Residential High-rise project and is capable of accommodating hundreds of prospective purchasers. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? DC: DCDA incorporated the integral structure of his calligraphy and silky painting style to develop the interior architectural space concept and integrated these into the detailing and motifs throughout the complex. The finely detailed serene wall paintings, glass panel and mirror fretwork, refined railings and flowing line chandeliers all chronicle Emperor Song Huizong’s cultural contribution. In juxtaposition to these cultural references, classic Greek Corinthian columns and pediments were used to announce the foyers leading from the central octagonal congregating hall to the display model area, bar, lobby and negotiating areas. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? DC: To promote and share this award winning design to friends and relatives, especially those clients and everyone who visiting this beautiful project. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? DC: Developing concept is a lengthy process under unpredictable time frame. To be exact the initial space planning and concept took approximately two months. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? DC: The design was commissioned. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? DC: This design is used by another company as their presentation sales center to promote their sales. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? DC: The design was commissioned. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? DC: Target potential buyers mainly between age of 25 to 45 FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? DC: The general atmosphere with touch of special art and culture. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? DC: The name of the Project is named by the clients who commissioned us to design. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? DC: Auto Cad, Photoshop, 3D design studio max FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? DC: The soaring 14 meters high Octagonal-shaped Hall is crowned with a luminous stained glass skylight creating a strong sense of grandeur that reverberates throughout the entire project. Lofty gallerias and illuminated tenderly curved barrel vaulted ceiling echo this majestic ambience. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design?
