Interview with Veronica Jibodh at Wednesday 17th of May 2017 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? VJ: The multifunctional fanny pack is the main product, main design, main inspiration, main idea. Our award winning bag a inspired by our most famous multifunctional fanny-pack. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? VJ: As any designer I wanted to achieve perfection. Every small detail counted. This design is inspired by our famous multifunctional fanny packs and that was my main focus. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? VJ: I will make this bag in different colours, but I will also improve this design for ultimate perfection. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? VJ: The design was in less than an hour but the product development took 3 months. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? VJ: This design was inspired by our famous multifunctional pouches. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? VJ: All our bags are produced by manufacturers. I design, I choose all materials and the manufacturer is putting it all together. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? VJ: Inspiration. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? VJ: My logo inspiration came from Gucci, Chanel and YSL but my designs were inspired by my own needs and vision. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? VJ: Fashion minded people who are confident, classy and chic, who loves fancy dining, who don't mind to pay more for quality, who admires timeless designs. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? VJ: It's the bigger sister of our multifunctional pouches. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? VJ: The brand name POUCHI is derived from the word "pouch", which means "bag" or "sack" since the idea of our very first product was to make a multifunctional fanny-pack FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? VJ: Paper and pen. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? VJ: Our multifunctional pouches are wearable as a fanny-pack, shoulder bag, cross body, clutch and wallet. The chains are also wearable as a belt. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? VJ: I worked alone on my designs. I still do. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? VJ: Multifunctional wearable styles. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? VJ: I did the research for the brand name, the logo and the design of the bag. I wanted to be sure that what I do would be unique. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? VJ: The biggest challenge was to find a manufacturer to make the perfect end-product from this design. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? VJ: I didn't know about this international design competition until A' Design Award Academy emailed me about my designs and suggested to submit my designs to the competition. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? VJ: I learned how to become a designer and set up my own brand. I didn't attend any design school. I didn't worked in any kind of fashion brand. I had an idea and I just typed in google: "how do I become a bags designer" - That's where my journey as a designer began. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? VJ: Follow us on social media @pouchiofficial. Contact us at info@pouchi.com - I want to thank A' Design Award and the Jury and everyone interested in POUCHI for everything so far. Thank you for the opportunities and thank you for your interest.
