Interview with Ronghao Jin at Sunday 30th of April 2017 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? RJ: To make users re-consider the behavior of ’watching TV’, supply a new way for the traditional entertainment field and make the design to change the world a better place. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? RJ: TV machine has been invented over 80 years, however, there’s no new way of watching TV. It’s strange, isn’t it? To divert the traditional and single way of watching TV to a modern and interactive one is the very thing we’d like to present in this design. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? RJ: For the next step, we’re willing to cooperate with more TV programs, and supply this new interactive way of watching TV to more users in the world. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? RJ: The whole iteration of the product takes nearly 1 year. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? RJ: There’s no convenient way to get related program information in the traditional TV watching behavior. For example, if I’m watching the program which is about the Como lake, I’d like to get the exact information about hotels, restaurants, history, and etc., however, there’s no place I can get all packaged information. That’s the main reason makes us design a better experience for the users. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? RJ: The product belongs to Hyku Llc, and we’re willing to supply the service for more users. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? RJ: To make the mobile app easy to be connected, communicated and downloadable by users is our business strategy, and the app is built on it exactly. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? RJ: Lin Juan is a team member of the design team, who is a very professional designer and contributed a lot to this design. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? RJ: Our target customers are the people who used to using smart-phone and watching TV often. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? RJ: The design thinking and structure is clear, which is prior to the sense of form. Meanwhile, synchronization for the second-screen is the main function of Hyku. We have already obtained 22 patents to make synchronization experience perfect. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? RJ: As Hyku supplies a brand new way of watching TV, we can’t find an existing name for it, and we created one. Hyku, sounds like “Hi, Cool!” FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? RJ: Sketch is the main software we used for this design, meanwhile, combined with Photoshop, illustrate, Aftereffect and etc. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? RJ: A’ design award is one of the most famous design award in the world, we’d like to make our design to be known by more people. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? RJ: To understand the users and be more client-oriented, which is not about following the users, instead, to help them achieve their aims and create great experience more than their imagination.
