Interview with Karolis Bakunas - Form2be at Thursday 27th of April 2017 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? FC: Main design principle is simplicity combined with luxury and aesthetics. The main idea was to create new looking family of products with newest engineering solutions and innovations. As a result we have devices that are comfortably to use and easy to operate. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? FC: The aim of design was to create modern looking and luxury family of products, that every customer would love to have. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? FC: We expect it will be popular among other competitors. We expect our client to produce these devices in large quantities. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? FC: It took about two months to design all the family of products. I made many versions, renders, sketches in order to achieve good result. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? FC: The task to design these objects was given by our clients. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? FC: These devices will be used by another company, they will produce and sell devices to private clinics, hospitals or home users. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? FC: Client of ours asked to make ultrasonic cosmetic appliances FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? FC: Some of particular design works inspired me first, and then inspiration came to me. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? FC: Clinics, hospitals or private cosmetic offices that offers facial cosmetic procedures to man and woman in order to make skin brighter, younger and smoother. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? FC: This design has new and innovative design based on it's shape and new technologies. There are no wires for ultrasonic heads, so user can easily operate them all around the room. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? FC: “Technokosmeda 5000X”- first goes client's brand and then “5000” means 5 ultrasonic heads and “X” means four trolley wheels. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? FC: I used shetching and 3D modelling. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? FC: The most unique aspect is bluetooth technology which lets ultrasonic heads make wireless. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? FC: I work with team of engineers, they helped me to with technical issues and came up with some solutions on this project. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? FC: Bluetooth technology enables to use ultrasonic heads without wires, that is very important. Also touch screen is used and some other new technologies. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? FC: Our client made user analysis, surveys, collected other data. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? FC: I had to put many internal components and make all devices not too big. Also it was not easy to make it comfortable to use. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? FC: I was sure that this design is good enough to be among the greatest designs this year, so I was sure that it is worth to participate. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? FC: I learned more about medical and cosmetic devices, I really learned much about technologies used. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? FC: I enjoyed designing these objects!
