Interview with Sunita Gill at Thursday 23rd of February 2017 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? SG: To have a functional product that also compliments a gloss minimalist kitchen. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? SG: The washing up contents needed to be out of sight when not in use, but still easily accessible. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? SG: To manufacture it in other colours. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? SG: It has taken about 3 years in total. There were numerous stages involved, from design right through to manufacturing. As this was a self funded project, I could only proceed from one stage to the next once I had sufficient funds. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? SG: It was the frustration of not finding a suitable sink tidy solution on the market, for a gloss kitchen that lead me to create my product. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? SG: I will be selling the product directly via Amazon and will be producing future products myself. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? SG: Clean and clear lines has always appealed to me as I like the concept of minimalism. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? SG: D2M Innovation helped me to bring my idea to life. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? SG: There is a wide customer base as it appeals to anyone that has a gloss kitchen or accessories. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? SG: Conventional sink tidies only act as holding containers and so the washing up liquid and hand soap bottles are clearly visible. The PAVARA sink tidy allows the contents to be hidden by manually rotating it. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? SG: PAVARA stands for Providing A Viable Aesthetic Result Anywhere. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? SG: We worked with D2M Innovation. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? SG: The ability to hide its contents by rotating and the exterior finish being gloss. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? SG: D2M Innovation FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? SG: During a marketing survey we discovered that all the participants had at least one washing up or hand soap bottle left by the sink. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? SG: Gloss kitchens are a worldwide trend and this competition gives us a broader platform in which to launch. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? SG: One has to be resilient when faced with adversity. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? SG: |
