Interview with Yah Li Toh at Sunday 26th of February 2017 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? YT: We wanted to experiment and see how can eraser/rubber as a material, interact with light. We put the erasers to lots of experiments, tested it with light, observing their colours, translucency, reflectivity. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? YT: It took us about 2 months of rigorous testing in our studio, and also visiting the eraser factory on site, checking the raw materials and also testing with various prototypes made by the factory. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? YT: Our collaborator, is the branding designer and he wanted us to go beyond just an illumination project, but also consisting of light art in relation to the eraser. Thus, it started the series of experiments and discovery. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? YT: We may consider FS: What made you design this particular type of work? YT: We love challenges and also discovering, thus this will be a good thing FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? YT: People would not know that at first, the light art works are made of erasers/rubber material and they will be surprised.
