Home > Winners > Design #52998 >Interview
Editor Frank Scott (FS) from DesignPRWire has interviewed designer Beck Storer (BS) for A' Design Awards and Competition. You can access the full profile of Beck Storer by clicking here. Access more information about the award winning design The Reflection Room here.

Interview with Beck Storer at Thursday 27th of April 2017

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
BS: Inspired by the colour red, which symbolises good fortune, The Reflection Room is a spatial experience that features red mirrors to create an infinite space. Inside, typography plays the role of connecting the audience to each of the Chinese New Year’s main values and prompts people to reflect on the year that has been and the year ahead.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
BS: We were approached by Emporium Melbourne to create an installation to celebrate the 2017 Chinese New Year.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
BS: Our aim was to create an engagement that triggered a personal and emotional reaction. The Reflection Room is a space for one to immerse themselves in the Chinese New Year sentiments of Longevity, Prosperity and Happiness and to reflect on the year pass and the year ahead.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
BS: The general public.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
BS: The entire structure is cladded in red mirror from ceiling to floor, whichcreating an infinite room

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
BS: Creative Directors - The Cutaway - Beck Storer, Paul Meeuswen Production Manager - Allan Davis Production Assistants - Patrick Huertas and Sean Huertas

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
BS: The cutting of the red mirror had to be millimetre perfect. There was no room for compromise!

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
