Interview with Yoshitaka Uchino at Friday 16th of September 2016

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
YU: Experiences in the spaces with rigid grids and curved wall ,for example Himeji Literally Museum by Tadao Ando.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
YU: Living with nature.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
YU: I want to design housings with further refined concept of this building.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
YU: About half a year.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
YU: Before I was commisioned this work,I intended to design housings with this concept.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
YU: All the housings of this concept would be designed by myself.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
YU: Experiences by several architectures such as works by Le Corbusier,Tadao Ando.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
YU: Works by Le Corbusier mainly in France.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
YU: People who understands the value of living with nature.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
YU: Creating a forest in a city with uniform grids and walls.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
YU: The concept being about nature,so I think it would be better the name reminds us nature.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
YU: drawing pens,sketch books.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
YU: Clear architectural concept with nature.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
YU: Engineers who clearly understand the concept.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
YU: Simple structural method.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
YU: Doing research on housings with public spaces such as Rokko Housing by Tadao Ando.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
YU: Making a forest and public spaces while facing with laws and economical rationality.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
YU: I want to know how my works would be evaluated in the world.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
YU: Traveling and visiting inspiring architectures.
