Interview with Stefan Tóth at Sunday 24th of April 2016

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
ST: Series STORIES of BIKE were/are a great source of inspiration. It helped to understand the relationship between the biker and the bike.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
ST: Everything was based around one question: what man awaits from a motorcycle for everyday use? It determined features that are inherited from classic, petrol-engined bikes as well as the novelties.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
ST: Not yet defined

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
ST: First idea was born in 2011. Then with small steps and pauses it tooks its current shape in 2015.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
ST: I consider this design as a collection of ideas

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
ST: Not decided yet.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
ST: I think we are heading to elementary changes in personal mobility, petrol age is over. As for the motorcycling, this is my version, how it might look like.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
ST: I am a big fan of custom motorcycle builders. Because they are not under commercial pressure, their work helps to define the core of the motorcycling as phenomenon.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
ST: Design is meant to be an allrounder. Suitable for daily transport needs, ideal for citizens, commuters, short distance riders who does not like to clean the chain of their bike.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
ST: Combining traditional and innovative features. Exposing technical details as part of the overall look

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
ST: This is my third motorcycle concept.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
ST: Computer graphic tools, based on initial hand sketches.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
ST: It was intended to leave the overall look a bit like an unfinished story, so that everybody could make the final touches personalized.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
ST: The technical background required consultations.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
ST: Application of the e-mobility technology was the most challenging part of the design process.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
ST: I studied market analyses to be able to define the needs and expectations of the target user group

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
ST: Finding an easy and smart way to change the battery pack was the detail with opened to the last moment. I think, the presented solution can be a convenient one for everyday use. Does not require special technical or physical skills.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
ST: I saw an award-winning design solution very similar to one of my previous concepts.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
ST: This work deepened my knowledge of the technical background, as well as the knowledge of the user-specifics of this product group.
