Interview with Davide Mancini at Thursday 21st of April 2016 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? DM: The inspiration come from the meaningful quotes of David Ogilvy who founded one of the most famous advertising companies in the world. This type exploration intends to recall his distinctive point of view and his unique tone of voice. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? DM: The inspiration come from the meaningful quotes of David Ogilvy brought back to life trough the style of classic typography with a contemporary twist. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? DM: It took many many hours of work. The whole project took around 2/3 weeks. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? DM: This project was made as decoration inside the Ogilvy & Mater office in Milan and also as self promotion. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? DM: No, it was produced just for Ogilvy & Mater office in Milan. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? DM: It was commisioned by Ogilvy & Mather Milano and I was honored to recall David Ogilvy's distinctive point of view and his unique tone of voice FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? DM: It took me a long research session to explore different styles and approaches. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? DM: Bothe agency clients and employer. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? DM: The right balance between all the elements, it's classy emphatic way. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? DM: It was the easiest part. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? DM: Pencil and paper for the draft and then Illustrator for the final realization. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? DM: The most unique part is the right balance between all the elements. The quotes expressed in a classy emphatic way but also easy to read. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? DM: I work with a specialized printer to realize the serigraphy print on vinyl film. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? DM: The technology here is mainly in the print method FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? DM: No, It's influenced by David Ogilvy's quotes FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? DM: The most difficult par was to find the right balance between all the elements. To bringing up the quotes in a classy emphatic way but also easy to read. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? DM: I was suggested. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? DM: I improved my skills on type design and type composition.
