Interview with Omdesign at Tuesday 17th of May 2016 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? OC: For this special blend Dalva Vitor Matos, the Omdesign advertising agency has created a new design bottle whose labels are all silk-screen printed and a wooden bartop signed by the Portuguese Chef Vitor Matos. It is also completed with a small brochure containing a selection of recipes chosen by the Chef, which go perfectly with Port and Douro wines. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? OC: The Dalva brand, owned by the C. da Silva company, recognised since 1862 for its high quality Ports, has joined forces with the renowned Portuguese Chef Vitor Matos to create a special edition 20 Years Tawny Port. This is the result of the sensory preferences of the Chef and also a tribute to the delicacy of the wines produced by C. da Silva, to the man and his genius and mastery. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? OC: This project started in July 2014 in Porto (Portugal) and finished in the beginning of 2015. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? OC: The packaging developed and produced by the Portuguese agency is highly differentiating, premium and clean with a bottle whose labels are all silk-screen printed. It features details of the watercolour painting (Golden Landscapes) by the Chef himself, painted on the exact same day this Tawny was created. Inside this packaging there is a Port wine bottle, a wooden bartop and also a little brochure with some recipes, both signed by the recognised Chef Vitor Matos. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? OC: Chef Vitor Matos painted Golden Landscapes on the exact same day this Tawny was created, so Omdesign decided to use it in our premium packaging. This painting is a tribute to the wine and vineyard culture where this unique and unmatchable nectar is produced: a Port wine, from Porto. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? OC: Vitor Matos has worked in Portugal and in Switzerland. Since 2010 until July 2015, he managed the Largo do Paço restaurant in Amarante (North Portugal), where he won and renewed his first Michelin star. The partnership between Dalva and the Chef Vitor Matos is reflected in this premium packaging with simple and elegant lines. It is also an honour to art and brings together the best of both worlds and strengthens the gastronomic links.
