Interview with Alexandra Fedorova at Sunday 24th of April 2016

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
AF: The main principle is functionality, everything in the interior should be functional.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
AF: Our goal was to create a space that would be interesting, memorable and coherent even in the absence of decoration items. The composition of the volumes that flow smoothly into one another is a single ensemble. It is filled with structural and functional objects of geometrical forms. We made doors as invisible as possible and as high as the ceiling, so that they do not interfere with the perception of space. In turn, natural materials, a large amount of wood and accessories soften the severity of lines, giving the interior comfort and warmth. The project focuses on the integrity of the free planning and texture finishing materials.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
AF: The project started in 2013 and finished in 2014 (Moscow).

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
AF: The interior is mostly implemented in warm colors combined with dark gray and white, and in the private area of the owners their favorite silver-gray colors dominate. The ceiling and floor of the bedroom are decorated with gray floorboard, and the surface of walls and floors in the bathroom has a texture of basalt. The use of wood for the decoration of ceilings sets the mood in the interior of a country house. The use of mirrors creates an additional volume of space.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
AF: First of all, it was sketching, discussing and thinking, than we used special programms such as 3dMax and Archicad.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
AF: In the interior of this country house neat forms are in harmony with softness and comfort. This effect was achieved due to the use of natural materials and the architectural study of the space.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
AF: In this project, we reflected on how to create the most open space. Our task was to unite all the functional areas, but at the same time hide the technical premises. Thus, it has turned the combined space of the kitchen, dining and living room and bedroom combined with a bathroom.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
AF: This project was the winner of the Interia Awards 2014 - the main design award of Russia, so we thought it merited an entry.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
