Interview with Shim eun ji at Tuesday 19th of April 2016 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? ES: An existing seatbelt is not designed to consider abdominal size of pregnant women. Since their abdominal size is greater than people in general, more pressure is exerted on their abdomen in case of a car accident which can be more painful and even critical for the life of a fetus. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? ES: In order to resolve this potential problem, this seatbelt is grooved which gives more flexibility than the existing seatbelt, so it fits securely and decentralizes the pressure exerting to the abdomen of pregnant women. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? ES: I want develop a product. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? ES: Two years. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? ES: I am experience inconvenience. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? ES: I do intent to produce my work myself. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? ES: I set up concept. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? ES: Song in seok designer is provide help technical part. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? ES: Pregnant woman, All people. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? ES: When this seatbelt is not in use, the groove of the belt is constricted, rolled back in to a buckle, and sharp part of the plate is circled to the opposite site to close, so the belt can be stored firmly. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? ES: That mean is seatbelt for the pregnant woman. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? ES: Rhinoceros 5 FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? ES: Seatbelt is Mesh. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? ES: Song in seok designer is provide help technical part. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? ES: This practical feature of the product makes it able to use not only for the pregnant women but also for people with various belt size. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? ES: Search information, experience. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? ES: I like universal design concept. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? ES: I do such internet. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? ES: I make detailed plans. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? ES: That's about it. I have no more questions.
