Interview with Nikola Vucicevic at Saturday 28th of February 2015 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? NV: Principle is thinking functionally, act smart and simple. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? NV: Raising the obesity awareness. Make some changes. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? NV: To find a partners and build a join-venture by making this product available to those who need it. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? NV: Not to long, but the execution took a while since my personal meters I moved from Europe to USA FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? NV: I wanted to help US community by designing this product. I believe one of the missions for designers in general is changing the world and make it better place. I hope this is my little contribution. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? NV: My design has not being used by any company. Commercial aspect depends on who will be interested in helping out its promotion and production. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? NV: Terrible statistic of obesity in USA. More than one-third of Us Adults are obese, which means around 80 million people. Obesity has to do with the economy, life stile and pretty much choice that we make. In 2013 there was no state that had prevalence of redistricted obesity less than 20%. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? NV: No. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? NV: People with weight problems in USA. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? NV: I am not familiar with similar concepts so I cannot compare. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? NV: Heart Plate is logical description I would say and perfect verbal identity. We are currently working on a tag line.. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? NV: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, 3D Max, After Effects, etc... FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? NV: Smart solution available to everybody. Everybody are using plates. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? NV: I am an author, and my team help me out in presentation process. Ivan Apostoloski for 3D Visualization, Peter Sundays was in charge for video production... FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? NV: So far this is a project in digital form, although we have one sample hand made in ceramics. Plan is to make Heart Plate using 3D Printing process. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? NV: http://www.cdc.gov/obesity/data/adult.html FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? NV: The main challenge was to create perfect for of heart so we can place one plate on another while transportation. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? NV: I like the philosophy and what A Design Award Stands for. Sine I believed in my Idea, I took my chances. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? NV: I believe I could make a small contribution to the world by this project. And hopefully raise the awareness for obesity. That what makes me feel great. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
