Interview with Michele Mamprin at Tuesday 29th of April 2014 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? MM: The main idea was to create a light device that use only renewable energy. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? MM: The main goal was to create something that is beautiful and functional at the same time and that respects the constraints of the brief. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? MM: Future plans are to finish school and continue to participate in other prestigious competitions believing that this is only the first of many victories. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? MM: The project was designed and realized in a month. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? MM: We were asked to design a light device for Diogene, the minimal house designed by architect Renzo Piano, during the course taught by Carlotta de Bevilacqua at Politecnico di Milano. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? MM: For now it is still a concept, I hope to find a way to get it produced. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? MM: I was very inspired by the lamp "Gibigiana" by Achille Castiglioni for Flos and the lamp "Objective" by Jean Nouvel for Artemide. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? MM: The use of an environmentally friendly technology applied to a lamp directable and transportable. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? MM: The object name is derived from the rotary movement of its upper part around a fixed axis. For this reason, Lap. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? MM: Tools for 3D modeling, rendering and video editing software and a series of study models both dimensional and functional. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? MM: The possibility to take it with you anywhere and the possibility to use it in various ways using only water and salt to feed. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? MM: I worked with two of my classmates study: Carlotta Tettamanti and Serena Martelli. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? MM: The role of technology in this project is crucial, we were confronted with a very salient issue in these times and we had to search a lot of information and do many tests before arriving at the desired result. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? MM: A specific research into the technologies available for the use of renewable energy sources. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? MM: Finding suitable components to meet the needs of the hypothetical users. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? MM: In order to test and compare with other designers in a very important competition.
