Interview with Thelos Design Team at Thursday 17th of April 2014 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? TD: The main idea to create this design is born an especial design chair that it connotes the essence on modernism aesthetics of Barcelona mixed with a contemporary design touch. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? TD: The main focus is show the organic look of wood working hand like as the modernist architect Antoni Gaudà had worked their architecture elements, ever inspired in nature topics that he always reinterpreted it on buildings. In this case applied in a furniture, applied it in a special chair. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? TD: First, we want to celebrate this prize together with Thelos design Team. Then we'll work hard to divulge this design, with added value thanks to this prize, to the worldwide interior design public. And we leverage to learn from every particular feedback for our knowlege and try to continue this look line work in the next projects. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? TD: We worked 3 months for the first concept and then 1 year to work hard for the first prototypes. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? TD: We think that the modernism movement always inspired in nature was finalized soon and his artistic potential needs to resurge and take a place in a contemporary art and design today. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? TD: Riza chair and the next family products that we'll design are and will be edited and produced for Thelos. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? TD: The particular type of work of Riza is its special lines of wood, likeness to tree roots and the same time to the modern metallic chair lines, want to give a message about that we can make products with natural raw materials and without fossil or chemical origins. The Riza chair is only realised with sustainable solid wood and natural varnishes. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? TD: We were inspired with all work of Catalan modernist architect Antoni Gaudà on his buildings and a his little furniture collection. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? TD: Riza is a contemporary design chair suitable for lounge areas of clubs, private residences and hotels. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? TD: Riza means a roots of the trees and we choose this name to reference to the natural movement of the roots in all directions and the chair structure asked going on any directions to finish the aesthetical and stabilization functions. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? TD: Riza is made with a organic look structure complemented with a special grid on the back and with only using solid wood.
