Interview with TANA-Gaetano Avitabile at Monday 14th of April 2014 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? GA: An image, my desire to discover what is behind an object FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? GA: Simplicity FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? GA: Promote myself and my work FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? GA: About 4 months FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? GA: The inspiration of "Place" was born during a flight FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? GA: My wish is that a company is interested to produce my design, in the meantime a prototype is in production FS: What made you design this particular type of work? GA: none FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? GA: none FS: Who is the target customer for his design? GA: I think that my design project could be both for residential and commercial FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? GA: none FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? GA: The first time I imagined this project I was in a non-place because it happened during a trip. That’s why “Place” is the name of this chair FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? GA: A pencil, a rubber, a notebook and my PC FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? GA: none FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? GA: none FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? GA: Technology is very important in this design because it is the result of three different processes joining together FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? GA: none FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? GA: none FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? GA: To me is very important to share my ideas with people, I need this to understand where my work is going, this is an important part of my creative process FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? GA: Each time I'm designing, a mental process move my pencil and this transform the simple action of drawing into a moment of growth FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? GA: none
