Interview with Alain Wong at Wednesday 9th of May 2012 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? AW: Besides integrating artistry with functionality, home design is especially important to be human-oriented and to enrich people’s living experiences. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? AW: An irregular false ceiling with light troughs in Living and Dining Areas is the main element in the design, highlighting the travel experiences and revealing the personality of the client. To create a characterized visual element in the room and keep the rest simple, white and beige colors spread over the room, with black and grey furnishes in simple lines and proportions. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? AW: More than a month, as the false ceiling is not only a decoration but also a practical box to hide the air conditioner, speakers and all those wires and cables. The technical part had taken me quite a long time, because the design is minimal and therefore embellishing those ugly parts is very important and can influence the design outcome a lot. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? AW: As inspired by one of the travel experiences of the clients. By creating that false ceiling and the hotel-like atmosphere in master bedroom, it outstands the personality of the clients. It's important as it is their home. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? AW: The eye-catching design in dining room and the overall match up of the living and dining rooms. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? AW: A competition or award is a recognition from professionals, the public and fellows.
