FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
JL: Inspired by the refined sophistication during Queen Victoria’s reign, Astoria transports you back to a time of grandeur and grace, offering a collection that exudes opulence and timeless charm. A statement piece in pure white, perfect for a noble, celebratory atmosphere, each piece captures the elegance and intricate detailing of Victorian decorative arts. The collection’s ornate silhouettes channel the grandeur of the Victorian era while blending minimalism with modern sophistication. Truly, Astoria brings regal splendour to the table.
FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
JL: Each piece is meticulously crafted with intricate detailing and finished with a lustrous glaze, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship.
FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
JL: The greatest challenge in designing the Astoria Collection was striking a balance between intricate Victorian-era embossing and modern subtlety. Researching and recreating historical designs was difficult, as deep embossing from the past needed refinement to provide a contemporary aesthetic. Achieving this delicate balance posed production challenges as it demanded precision and finesse. We overcame these obstacles by blending traditional craftsmanship with modern technology, ensuring the designs remained detailed yet understated.
FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
JL: We wanted to gain international recognition and share our collection with a global audience.
