PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Astoria is crafted from Luzerne's signature blend of clay sourced from Dehua, China, known for its purity and durability. This clay is the ideal base, bringing resilience and an elegant aesthetic to each piece. The production involves hand moulding, followed by the creation of a plaster master mould. Our specially formulated clay is then shaped using a casting technique that integrates both manpower and machinery. Each piece is meticulously sculpted with intricate detailing and finished with a lustrous glaze. The glazing process combines automated equipment and skilled handwork to ensure a clean, consistent finish. This resists stains and scratches, ensuring lasting elegance and functionality.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: For this project, the research was on the rich opulence of the Victorian era, with a particular focus on its timeless aesthetic and ornate detailing. Research was conducted to study the elaborate silhouettes characteristic of the period, which formed Astoria’s intricate shapes. Careful consideration was given to accessories that complement the collection, ensuring a cohesive and elegant design.
CHALLENGE: The greatest challenge in designing the Astoria Collection was striking a balance between intricate Victorian-era embossing and modern subtlety. Researching and recreating historical designs was difficult, as deep embossing from the past needed refinement to provide a contemporary aesthetic. Achieving this delicate balance posed production challenges as it demanded precision and finesse. We overcame these obstacles by blending traditional craftsmanship with modern technology, ensuring the designs remained detailed yet understated.
