Interview with Wanxiao Zhang at Wednesday 6th of May 2020 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? WZ: This is a room with unilateral lighting, originally there was no lighting on the first floor. In order to solve the problem of lighting and ventilation. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? WZ: Focus on the light, the light was not good. Then we must design the effect of full house with sunshine. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? WZ: After interviewing the residents' real feelings, they put the sense of residence in the most important position in the design. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? WZ: The initial proposal will take about half a month. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? WZ: After analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of apartment types, I sorted them out. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? WZ: The work was built by our company itself. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? WZ: Often look at architectural design works FS: Who is the target customer for his design? WZ: Improved housing, customers with requirements FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? WZ: The trust given to the customer, if it is not for the customer's support, can't make good works. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? WZ: It is precisely because the daylighting of the Yuan family is not good enough that we hope the sunshine will spread all over the house. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? WZ: My partner, who has 15 years of designer experience, is now in charge of our company's construction technology. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? WZ: Technology is very important and is the soul of the whole project. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? WZ: I want to improve myself once again in the whole process of sorting out and reflecting. It is also recognition of your hard work. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? WZ: The shortcomings of the house are also its advantages. Improving the shortcomings is also the finishing touch of the design.
