| DESIGN NAME: Christmas Wishes PRIMARY FUNCTION: CD music album INSPIRATION: This Christmas compilation album was to be sold at coffee shops, so I wanted to combine some of the Christmas motifs with coffee beans, in order to relate with the customer in a simple and straightforward way. Knitting patterns and coffee beans look and feel quite similar so I created a coffee beans knitting pattern to cover all the surface of this CD album. In my understanding the warmth of coffee conveys a nice feeling of coziness that matches the feelings usually associated with Christmas. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is a Christmas compilation CD album sold at Starbucks coffee shops in Japan. The warm and friendly artwork, rendered by means of a grid of coffee beans inspired by a knitting pattern, expresses and mirrors the feelings and atmosphere of warmth and coziness normally associated with Christmas time. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The packaging helps decorating and setting the mood for Christmas in Starbucks, providing a fitting artwork to a collection of classic Christmas songs. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The printing technique consists of 3 special colours and gold foil on paper. The pattern printed on the CD itself shares the same grid to the rest of the case underneath the transparent tray and on the cover, creating a continuous motif even when the CD is out of the tray. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 140mm x Depth 6mm x Height 125mm TAGS: CD, music, Christmas, Starbucks, knitting pattern, coffee beans RESEARCH ABSTRACT: - CHALLENGE: Creating colour tones matching with gold foil and champagne-gold background, having the foil to match the position on coffee beans throughout the grid.
