| DESIGN NAME: Crocu Saffron Grinder PRIMARY FUNCTION: Saffron Grinder INSPIRATION: Saffron and turquoise are important and valuable souvenirs of iran. sheikh lotfollah mosque in Isfahan is one of the Iranian architectural masterpieces and significantly its dome and interior decoration beside two other above subjects have led to design the saffron mill called Crocu. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Crocu saffron mill as a single and unit product is my effort to achieve resultant of the three cultural and touristic and natural aspects of my motherland Iran by the side of presenting the correct method of saffron consumption and long time keeping as well as saving its quality and freshness. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: After unboxing the Crocu which is made from two hemispheres and open the upper case then fill the lower one with saffron threads and again place the upper hemisphere over it afterwards twist the button to adjust grinding from fine to threads. finally push the main button on the top of grinder and the act of grinding will have been completed. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This product has conducted in tehran. from the time of starting to research and collect the data till achieving the final design it took about 2 years. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Making digital 3d model to evaluate the gripping rate and also to reach the suitable form for one handed operation to relieve pressure on operator wrist. in addition to computer modeling the prototype has been made by 3d print technology and this product has been selected as a final product model. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: W*D*H : 85*85*75 materials: SAN or acrylic styrene acrylonitrile polymer and copper and turquois. CHALLENGE: The designer mental disturbance was creating another grinding method which is following design trends to achieve aesthetics and performance beside the consuming methods improvement such as not using any external elements like adding sugar to facilitate grinding. therefore the solution to this challenge is designing a product which contains response to all of the above failures and concerns.
