| DESIGN NAME: ICON PRIMARY FUNCTION: Washbasin INSPIRATION: Earth, in the two senses of the word, was the inspiration for the creation of Icon. First, the Earth as a spatial element motivated the research, development and application to allow this product to be experienced from emotions. Second, earth as a natural resource upon which different meteorological factors act and which is subject to human, plant and animal intervention. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Properties of acacia wood (furniture) -High resistance to temperature changes, humidity, pressure and water -FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) Certificate Properties of the new material (washbasin) -Very low creep and shrinkage -High Resistance to heat and cold Chemical resistance. Geopolymer materials can easily withstand months of immersion in a variety of aggressive elements without experiencing any deterioration or damage. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: ICON maintains its differential characteristics and aesthetics thanks to a frame made of metal tubing that functions as a holder for the more singular and differentiating element: the base that supports the washbasin. The round washbasin made of completely innovative and sustainable material composed of an ash conglomerate fly ash binder that both fulfils the function and singularity of being recyclable. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project commenced in August 2016 in Bathco. It was carried out by the Bathco design team in collaboration with the Green Engineering & Research team at the University of Cantabria. It is expected that the product will be fully developed by early 2017. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The furniture element is made of the wood of the acacia tree. . The cutting and extraction is carried out following sustainability parameters. The second piece is a washbasin made of a new material.
