| DESIGN NAME: Experimental Standing Chair PRIMARY FUNCTION: Experimental Standing Chair INSPIRATION: We heard a lot about the harmful effects of the sedentary work style to our spine while we spend most of our work time in seats. But sitting causes obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Experimental standing chair with the aim of avoid the harmful effects of the sedentary lifestyle. The furniture allows dynamic posture changes and helps the user to work close to standing position. People can work in leaning position, while there is a position close to normal chair we can use to reduce the load on our feet. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The Experimental Standing chair works like a regular chair. It has 4 points contacting the floor, and it has adjustable seat. In order to adjust the height, you have to screw out the threaded steel rod, pull it out, slide up or down the seater, find a matching hole, put the rod in, and tighten it. It has an adjustable footrest also, it can be rotated by foot to achieve the most comfortable angle. The foot rest has two end position, it cannot be over-turned or broken. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: With this furniture Ariel Levay graduated in Moholy-Nagy University of Arts and Design (MOME), Master's degree in Designer, Hungary, in 2015. The research started in October, 2014 and the final design was born in April, 2015. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The Experimental Standing Chair is a wooden furniture, But the designer also used steel parts in the critical junctions to maintain strength and long-term durability. The furniture has ethereal but rigid structure. He wanted it to be static and sturdy, to keep the furniture nature. The chair is made up of geometric elements, and the surface finish is black for more serious and elegant look. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The furniture outer volume is: 1000mm high at its highest position, 450 mm wide, and 841 mm long. Package dimension: 700mm high, 650mm width, and 1050mm long TAGS: furnitur, chair, standing chair, seat, home, black, wood, wooden, office, home, health, health care, healthy, sitting, standing, RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The designer was looking for the circumstances of effective office working. After reading books about the office work, and research about the harmful effects of our sedentary work style, he decided to design a furniture which allows the user to work less in sitting position. He has made several real size prototypes, tried different surface shapes, read a lot of books about ergonomic sizes of people. After finding the technical parameters and specific dimensions the concept has to suit, the final design development started. CHALLENGE: The hardest part was also the most enjoyable, finding the materials and design the structure capable of the necessary strength and durability, while carrying the design elements and finished, aesthetic looking. NAME: Ariel Levay PROFILE: Ariel Levay is a freelance designer from Hungary, also making own brand products. He think of himself basically as a designer with engineering approach. As a child he often dismantled his toys when he did not understand what is inside them, how they work. He was always interested in how things operate, how to modify structures or solve issues. The designer aspire to use materials, resources, and opportunities locally, in his close environment. |
