| DESIGN NAME: el ANIMALITO PRIMARY FUNCTION: Chair INSPIRATION: One day I started to look for answers to the question: How to design a chair that can meet the needs of individuals in a uniform modern world using a natural material such as wood? el ANIMALITO is just the answer. Its owner is personally involved in the creative process, deciding on the choice of materials, and thus manifesting it as they are. el ANIMALITO is a piece of furniture with character - it may be predatory and dignified, extravagant and expressive, quiet and subdued, crazy ... manifesting the nature of its owner. el ANIMALITO - a chair that can be tamed. The armchair el ANIMALITO GRANDE will be a continuation of the series, giving the opportunity to create a stylistically coherent collection. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: el ANIMALITO can be defined in 7 words: emotional, ergonomic, exclusive, aesthetic, exciting, excellent and enjoyable. Its shape has to be a balance between expression and clarity of forms and convenience. Therefore, it combines a contoured seat and back, based on research in the field of ergonomics by Grandjean with softness that emphasizes its uniqueness with the finishing material. Due to its versatility it can be used both in public and private interiors. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: el ANIMALITO chair has been designed to allow the user to sit in the most comfortable position. That is why the seat is tilted back and the backrest has 2 bearing areas: sacral and lumbar, adjusting to the curvature of the spine. The deviation of the rear legs of the frame to the back of the chair makes it very stable. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in April 2014 in Wrocław and finished in September 2015 in Wrocław, and was exhibited in Warsaw Build 2015 in Warsaw in September 2015. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The frame is made of solid beech wood on CNC 5-axis. The backrest is made of veneer 3D bent in the press matrices, also formed on CNC 5-axis. The whole structure is finished with veneer. Both the seat and backrest are covered with fabric upholstery. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: chair dimensions – width 520mm x depth 540mmx height 835mm TAGS: chair, furniture, seat, wood, veneer, nature, ergonomic, upholstered RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research into the production of the chair consisted, among other things, in developing methods for a rapid and precise manufacture of the frame, whose components run on different planes. Tests were carried out on various types and thicknesses of veneers in order to properly bend the backrest. CHALLENGE: The biggest difficulty was to design an ergonomic backrest. The model was modified several times to obtain fluid lines whilst providing comfort. Likewise, the process of translating the computer modeling into the language of CNC was equally difficult. Another problem was the 4-way bending of the plywood backrest. The final challenge was to combine in a cohesive manner two elements made of different materials: the wooden panel frame and the plywood backrest.
