PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Containers for home use

INSPIRATION:
The idea behind this products was taken from the fruit's shape divided in half, and inspired by beauty of natural forms. The focus was the different layers, that created the concept for the design.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The Fruit Collection is a set of containers for home use. The inspiration background, taken from the fruit's shape divided in half, make it a simple and contemporary product. In the product we have two simple materials, wood that provides warmth, and thermoplastic, purity and innovation. The use of this two materials is explained by the contrast needed into this work, achived by the use of two opposing materials together, with different textures and colors. The central aspect of this set is the strict relation between function and form. The simple and practical design is enriched by the containers ovoid shape with integrated lid and handle. This creates a simple, functional and elegant product. The lid is the most important feature in the product because it defines, not only the access to what is inside, but also strengthens it's organic inspiration. The product have multi-purpose simple shape with an atractive aesthetic, and achive a simple product with good finish, combining materials and shapes.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
This product is best used as a dried food container although wet and more liquid foods are also usable. Every container is composed of 3 parts: the lower case with ovoid shape; the lid made of olive root that defines the access to what is inside and strengthens it's organic form; and the integrated handle.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The Project started in July 2015 and finished in August 2015 in Porto, Portugal.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The product was made by differents technology. The case is made of thermoplastic (PMMA), shaped by vaccum thermoforming process. The cases's lid is made of olive root, machined in CNC. Fruit Collection has dimensional stability with different utilities for food applications. This product is resistant has an easy maintenance.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
The set has seven containers ranging from 120 mm to 350 mm. The case is made of thermoplastic polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), shaped by vacuum thermoforming process. The cases's lid is made of olive root, machined in CNC, with teak oil finishing. The lid's handle is also made in thermoplastic (PMMA).

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
In the product we have two simple materials, wood that provides warmth, and thermoplastic, putity and innovation. The production process optimisation led us to a simple product, with clean and multi-purpose shapes.

CHALLENGE:
The principal challenge was optimize the production process through the two materials used. We can obtain multi-purpose simple shape with an atractive aesthetic, and achive a simple product with good finish, combining materials and shapes.
