| DESIGN NAME: Spirit of Time PRIMARY FUNCTION: Stool INSPIRATION: Spirit of Time is relating to, or derived from living plants, simple, healthful, and close to nature. Spirit of Time and its process seek to integrate environmentally aware, computational, and form-generating processes. It is about a complex and complimentary relationship between organic matter, like leaves and its branches. This is mirrored in the geometrical forms and the dualities that drive their formation. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The stool explores the relationship between multiculturalism and life as performance.New tensions are synthesized from both simple and complex dialogues.As student I am fascinated by the endless oscillation of the zeitgeist.What starts out as contemplation soon becomes manipulated into a tragedy of lust,leaving only a sense of unreality and the possibility of a new understanding. As spatial replicas become transformed through emergent and diverse practice,its ends with the limits of the future. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Spirit of Time breaks the standard conventional concept of a stool. The stool is now inhabited and used as a source of inspiration. The stool can be rotated and sat on from all different sides. Allowing for a potential new experience on every side. Different elements and forms meeting the body will result in an exuberant emotional state. With its delicate wooden texture and intricate details, it is allowed to be accepted and placed in various indoor contexts. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in the February of 2015 and ended in August of 2015, the project was carried out in the United Arab Emirates. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The wooden parts of the stool are fabricated using a 3-axis cnc router to cut each piece/panel separately. They are later merged and connect together through a core in the center of the stool. Various notches and connection details have been designed to make the stool build-able. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Length 100 cm Width: 100 cm Height: 90 cm. Delicate details and parts are carefully connect and integrated together through a core, in the center of the stool, to fuse all parts together. TAGS: stool, infinity, time, recurring, spirit, indoor RESEARCH ABSTRACT: It is an exuberant journey towards a design research incorporating both biological and natural aspects into practical and functional designs. Exploring various details in nature was a primary inspiration. Through assessing and analyzing the data and transforming it into a 3 dimensional object was a critical stage. The results had an impact on my emotionally and spiritually. The intricate topology of the design releases and activates the senses of the observer. CHALLENGE: The most challenging yet most exciting part of the design process was the plausibility and application of the design into the real world. Innovating a construction process to reach the desired level of detail in the design was an exciting stage of the design process. For a long time humans attempted to imitate nature in creating inhabitable structures, some worked out other failed. Spirit of Time emulates organic features from nature and connects naturally formed objects with fabricated objects.
