DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Mila

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
3D Printed Vase

INSPIRATION:
Inspired by the work of the famous designer Antoni Gaudi - the chimney on the roof of the Casa Mila. These chimneys are beautiful in shape and seem to be rising with the smoke, full of vitality. This work refines and changes the shape of the chimney on the roof of Mira Apartment, such as twisting and blanking, to make it more rhythmic and varied.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
This series of 3D printed vases contains three different sizes of hydroponic vases, which can satisfy the needs of different planting. The material uses VeroClear translucent material based on PolyJet 3D printing technology. This translucent material provides a hazy feeling to their appearance and adds a touch of mystery. Structurally, this series of vases adopts a one-piece double-layer structure, which makes the translucent material appear layered, making it more layered.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Pour nutrient solution or water into the vase, put the aquatic plants in it, change the water and trim the plants regularly.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in November 2022 and finished in February 2023 in LuXun Academy of Fine Arts.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
This series of vases is printed with PolyJet 3D printing technology, and VeroClear translucent material is used to realize the direct molding of products without other technologies. VeroClear translucent material supports a range of color options and has a good texture.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
S:Width 180mm x Depth 180mm x Height 180mm M:Width 108mm x Depth 108mm x Height 290mm L:Width 116mm x Depth 116mm x Height 220mm

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
Abstract and analyze the shapes of the chimneys on the roof of Casa Mila to explore their rhythm. The modeling language of these chimneys is mostly spiraling lines or two-sided continuous texture patterns on the surface. Combining the two forms a brand-new form full of vitality, so as to explore the change of texture and the sense of power of form.

CHALLENGE:
It is interesting to extract the form of the chimney on the roof of Casa Mila and blend it to create a new form. How to integrate these elements and make the whole set of vases conform to the modern aesthetic is a challenge.
