DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Gap

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Residential House

INSPIRATION:
Since the client wanted a bright and open living space, we will consider securing the volume of the courtyard on the south side and securing light and visual expanse in the living space. The direction of the building is often limited by the shape of the site, but the effect of the three-dimensional diagonal line was obtained by crossing the buildings three-dimensionally in consideration of the angle of the sun and further changing the height.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The appearance is simple and profound, but in order to enjoy the light in the courtyard, the space protruding to the south is angled to accept the light as much as possible. A three-dimensional diagonal line is drawn inside by making different angles and different heights of each layer in the internal space. This angle and height, which cannot be imagined from the outside, give depth and change to the space and create communication that keeps the residents a new sense of distance.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The main life is in the living space on the second floor, which floats in the air. In addition, everyday life around us takes place on the surface of the earth, and the well-arranged house shapes and trees effectively block the line of sight of our neighbors. The indoor space constructed with three-dimensional diagonal lines widens the line of sight in various directions, ensures privacy, maintains a reasonable sense of distance, and creates a rich daily life.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project was completed in Hyogo, Japan in March 2021

FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:
Architecture, Building and Structure Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Considering the heat insulation performance and durability performance of the building, the wooden structure mainly adopted in Japan was adopted. In that case, the complex and bold spatial composition makes the building strength uneasy. We conducted structural analysis and constructed it firmly and safely using large-section laminated wood and metal joints. In Japan, which is an earthquake-prone country, the structure is so important that the utmost consideration is being given.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
Site area: 333.32 Size: 263.28 Structure: Timber Floor: 2 For the purpose of realizing a low-carbon society, it is safely planned with a wooden structure that has secured strength by structural analysis. In Japanese wooden structures, it is often difficult to provide a large opening because the wall is proof stress, but it is possible to design a large space and a large opening by performing precise structural analysis even in a wooden structure. ..

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
In a large connected space with varying angles and heights, the volume of the room is large and energy consumption loss is considered. We will collect data by improving the outer skin performance and heat insulation performance, utilizing sunlight and high-performance air conditioners, and regularly measuring the temperature to see if it can be solved as a zero energy house. In addition, we regularly visit third parties to explore their experiences.

CHALLENGE:
Even if you are planning a densely populated area, it is about securing renewable energy and improving the openness and performance of your home. Moreover, it is important to ensure the privacy of the residents. We will meet the low-carbon demand required for wooden structures and create designs with even higher openness. Furthermore, in Japan, it is a big challenge to create an excellent design while ensuring the strength to withstand the frequent large earthquakes.
