Home > Winners > Design #58542 >Interview
Editor Frank Scott (FS) from DesignPRWire has interviewed designer Arman Nur (AN) for A' Design Awards and Competition. You can access the full profile of Arman Nur by clicking here. Access more information about the award winning design Family here.

Interview with Arman Nur at Monday 30th of April 2018

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
AN: My source of inspiration to create this set of rings was the concept of traditional Armenian family with bounded harmonic relationships. These rings are solely designed for my family and are absolutely exclusive and one of a kind as my hallmark is to never repeat my art works.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
AN: The story behind the creation of the rings relates to making present for my twin daughters birthday. Having nearly the same appearance they have extremely different personalities. The rings display this difference through various color solutions and diverse figure motions while the invisible strong link between them is manifested by availability of chains. In order to depict the family in a complete way two more art works were added, the rings symbolizing mother and father of the family.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
AN: As it was a present to my twin daughters the only future plan is to decorate their hands.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
AN: It took me about a month.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
AN: By this concept I wanted to underline the invisible bond between the twins.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
AN: As it is a very personal item I would never think about to sell it.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
AN: The endless love to my family especially my twins made me creating this work.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
AN: No as I said this was and is very personal to me so of course there was no any influence of other designers.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
AN: The owners so our family.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
AN: There are no similar products as those rings are made very individual for each family member.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
AN: Family means the same to all of us.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
AN: My hands and my mind.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
AN: The most unique aspect of my design is being original.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
AN: No, most of the time it is only me working on my artworks.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
AN: As it is a conceptual jewelry I have created them as sculptures.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
AN: I researched carefully the typical motions of each character according to their preferences and hobbies. For example, the ring symbolizing mother is portrayed in a yoga position because my wife is a yoga lover. Rings designed for daughters are demonstrating their love to ballet dances.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
AN: The biggest challenge for me to create this particular set was to depict the personality and state of mind of each family member through the rings taking into consideration their ergonomics and everyday applicability.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
AN: It was very occasionally

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
AN: I learned more about the human body plastic.

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
AN: No, thank you.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
