Interview with Wang Yuhui at Tuesday 19th of April 2016

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
HD: By considering of low-lighting roads always have more traffic accidents in our daily life, we offer you a new way about portable street lamp which also including environmental protection of electricity energy. It solved the problem of the traditional traffic cone can fall down and break easily,and difficult discover from a distance. It seems like a cone,but more than a cone. It can be used like a street lamp,but it is not only a lamp. Because of it, our journey at night is full of safety and convenience.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
HD: Our main idea is to change the form of the cone, and make it more functional.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
HD: We trying to make our cone into next level, and make it easy in productivity.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
HD: For a month in trying so much different kinds of sketching, we finally chose this cone.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
HD: Because the cone only has a one type in our daily life, and the inspiration of this cone is spring.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
HD: No,it isn't. So we are planning to sell our production.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
HD: The inspiration of our design is coming from the observation of daily lives.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
HD: No, there isn't.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
HD: This cone is design for workers and drivers.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
HD: This cone is more easy in taking in and out.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
HD: It is coming from the form of this cone. It means that the cone can engthen and shorten freely.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
HD: paper、pencil and computer

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
HD: Our traffic cone is lighter and smaller. It is including three forms: closed, opening and extensional. It can be powered through solar energy panels under LEDS so that it can be street lamps at night. It is offering more convince at low-lighting roads in the dark night. If there is a traffic accident or work, our cones can catch more attention in automotive vehicles, non-motor vehicles or pedestrians. It can bring fun for the municipal worker when he takes in our cones like a spring

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
HD: I collaborate with my best friend Du Heli , my college teachers prof Xue and prof Sun. Yes,I did.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
HD: The power of the cone is using electronic and it is came from the solar power

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
HD: Yes,it is.By the questionnaire survey.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
HD: There's are some challenges about the way how we use our cone like a warning light as well and how to setup it.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
HD: By thinking of it a really longtime, we finally makeup a decision. Because we have the confidence of our design and nothing to lose if we failed, we submit the cone finally.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
HD: I'm learned that team work is really useful, when you are trying to design something, best friends, also the designer,can help you in so many things in doing our design.

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
HD: I think that's all.
