Interview with Ivana Cvetkovic Lakos at Sunday 15th of February 2015

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
IC: My main principle is multifunctionality, one product in many forms. The idea was born as an inspiration from grandmather footstools, my favorite childhood stool stored under the table. They often served me as table extensions.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
IC: Achieving maxsimum function with minimalism.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
IC: I would like to licensing the design to a established manufacturer.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
IC: One month to design and one month to prototype.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
IC: I have pursuit my personal inspiration.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
IC: The design is currently being produced in short runs, but i’d like to sell the rights to production.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
IC: This design responded to the need for an extendable coffee table in my home.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
IC: Design innovators.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
IC: Young people and young families looking for practical and playfully furniture solutions.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
IC: Practical function and using pop-up colors as an element of happy surprise.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
IC: I think STRECH.ME name speaks for itself, it is stretchable as you like.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
IC: Hand sketching, 3D modeling and rendering.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
IC: High precision is required for sliding elements and it is challenging aspect in manufacturing process. Playfulness and color combination ultimately defines this design aesthetically. 



FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
IC: I design alone, and to realize ideas into prototypes I work with numerous craftsmens.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
IC: Kept in minimum with rectangular simple forms.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
IC: I have been studying human habits while drinking coffee or vine in everyday life.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
IC: This is an excellent platform to get my design presented to the greater audience.
