Time Capsule Unveiled: Lee Chi Yuan's Residential Design Wins A' Design Award

Lee Chi Yuan's residential design "Time Capsule" captures the essence of history and nostalgia, blending vintage objects and narratives into a modern living space. The project, located in Taipei, Taiwan, was completed in October 2022, and has been recognized with the prestigious A' Design Award in 2024.

Inspired by vintage objects and memories, "Time Capsule" seamlessly integrates antique furniture, artworks, and historical imprints into a 854 sqft living space. The design showcases a collection of solid wood pieces, including grand wooden coffee tables, needlework boxes, Danish armoires, and classically styled furniture, along with artworks and sculptures, creating a nostalgic yet contemporary ambiance.

The study, serving as the centerpiece of the public space, features semi-open corner ports on both sides, incorporating see-through glass and a wooden sliding door to create an opaque and secluded character. The space also hosts a classic single chair, providing a cozy spot to enjoy the afternoon sun.

The walls are coated with natural white clay, evoking childhood memories of mud houses, while weathered cypress window sills complement artistic driftwood plantings, adding texture and warmth to the interior.

Lee Chi Yuan is an experienced designer with a background in project management for construction companies, renovation of large department stores, and cross-industry collaborations. Based in Taipei City, Taiwan, Lee Chi Yuan has also served as a curator for themed pavilions at Taiwan Interior Design Week.
