Nic Lee Unveils the Jinglan Bay Art Museum
Nic Lee, the design director of Waterfrom Design, presents the Jinglan Bay Art Museum, a revolutionary museum concept located in the mountainous area of Liuzhou, China. The museum challenges traditional architectural norms by using light and shadow to recreate the experience of wandering in the mountains, offering visitors a transformative journey through nature and tranquility. The project, which began in November 2021 and was completed in July 2022, is set to be exhibited in August 2022.
The museum, spanning 1705 m2, features a reception area, sales area, display area, digital media area, VIP area, office, and toilet. It incorporates polished terrazzo, chiseled marble, mineral paint, red paint, and black wood, creating a serene ambiance that reflects the seasonal scenery and human movement outside the windows.
Lee's inspiration for the museum stems from Liuzhou's unique stones, which served as the foundation for the museum's design. By integrating raw stones and deep cut stone surfaces, the museum captures the essence of the surrounding natural landscapes, offering visitors an emotional connection to nature.
Lee's unconventional approach to museum design challenges visitors to rethink their relationship with nature and architecture, providing a space that transcends traditional perceptions of landscapes. The museum's innovative design has earned Lee the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in 2024, highlighting his exceptional creativity and technical expertise.
