Waterfrom Design's Park Lane Complex
Waterfrom Design, led by Nic Lee, has unveiled the innovative Park Lane Complex, a sales center in Guangzhou that seamlessly blends Eastern and Western architectural styles. The design draws inspiration from the city's diverse architectural landscape, integrating traditional courtyards with modern Western-style buildings and covered walkways to optimize spatial layout and enhance indoor circulation.

Guangzhou's dynamic cityscape, shaped by its geography and commerce, epitomizes the blending of north-south and east-west cultures. Waterfrom Design highlight this synthesis through spatial design, seamlessly integrating traditional courtyards with Western-style buildings and pedestrian arcade. The choice of materials, such as red travertine from the Middle East, pays homage to Guangzhou's Lingnan culture while exemplifying its cross-regional approach to material sourcing from the West.

Spanning 2164 square meters, the Park Lane Complex features a second-floor entrance designed in a layout resembling the Chinese character "回", doubling as a welcoming area and display space. A central courtyard spans both floors, illuminating their relationship. Adjacent to the entrance, a long courtyard hosts a café on the first floor, while the main wall extends upwards, blending with sculptural elements like split rock-like stairs and a bar area. Red sandstone dominates the visual landscape, adding warmth and texture to the neutral interior, creating a memorable ambiance.

Located in Guangzhou, China, the project was started in May 2023 and completed in September 2023. Waterfrom Design's meticulous attention to detail and innovative approach to spatial design have resulted in a sales center that not only showcases the city's rich cultural heritage but also offers a seamless indoor-outdoor experience for visitors.

Nic Lee, the design director of Waterfrom Design, has been in designs for over a decade, and his work mixes extreme simplicity with humor. Throughout his education and career, Nic has melded thinking from the arts, humanities, and philosophy, possessing the logical thinking of architecture and design, as well as the rebellious nature of artists. He has received the Golden Pin design award for two consecutive years (2010-11), and was one of the top 10 designers for the Taiwan Interior Design Award (2007-2010).
