Hiroaki Iwasa's Amar Bari project introduces a minimalist, multi-functional rental apartment concept in the heart of Central Tokyo, inspired by the Japanese philosophy of Chisoku. The four-unit apartment, constructed with a bare concrete frame, offers a unique living space that encourages residents to create their envisioned lifestyle within a 3.5-meter high blank canvas.

The apartment's design maximizes the limited site space, featuring wooden booths that cleverly conceal essential living facilities and appliances, promoting a lifestyle of simplicity and freedom. The project aims to redefine urban living by providing a versatile environment that fosters collaboration with the local community.

Residents are encouraged to utilize the open space for various purposes, such as art studios, music studios, offices, and galleries, reflecting the essence of Chisoku philosophy in embracing emptiness as an opportunity for personal and communal enrichment.

The structure's emphasis on reinforced concrete ensures high soundproofing and insulation, while the wooden equipment booths optimize space for storage and functionality. The design's meticulous attention to material selection and construction simplicity reflects a commitment to enhancing residents' quality of life.

With a total floor area of 63.4m2, the apartment units offer versatile living spaces, with and without bathtubs, catering to the diverse needs of single-person households in a high-density urban setting.

From its inception in March 2009 to completion in January 2011, the Amar Bari project represents a culmination of extensive research and creative problem-solving. Hiroaki Iwasa's innovative approach to space optimization and lifestyle enhancement has resulted in a distinguished architectural achievement that redefines contemporary urban dwelling.
