The SATA Group comprises air transport companies whose decision centre is located in the city of Ponta Delgada, on the island of São Miguel, in the archipelago of Azores. Flying since 1947, today connects over 80 destinations in the North Atlantic.

SATA Group has come a long way from the small family nucleus it was in the 1940s. Over 1.200 workers offer their interest and professionalism in the development of this project. SATA is today an air travel group composed of five companies that develop activities related to passenger and cargo air transport. Besides two distinct airlines, one with regional vocation and the other with an international dimension, the SATA universe is completed by its participation in two tour operations, SATA Express (Canada) and Azores Express (USA), with the fifth company SATA Gestão de Aeródromos in charge of managing various airport infra-structures in the Azores archipelago. Members of IATA, the SATA Airlines and the Maintenance, Engineering and Handling businesses have seen their teams’ merit and professionalism rewarded with the sector’s most distinguished certifications.

SATA AIR AÇORES WINS THE MEDAL OF HONOR
The International Civil Aviation Organization awards a Medal of Honor to SATA Air Açores for its excellence in service.
1998
SATA RECEIVES AIR OPERATOR CERTIFICATE
SATA Internacional received its Air Operator Certificate that allows it to operate international routes from the Azores.
2011
SATA Air Açores awarded “2011/2012 Bronze Airline of the Year”
The European Regions Airline Association (ERA) awarded the bronze “2011/2012 Airline of the Year” distinction to SATA Air Açores for the results it achieved by replacing and renewing its ATP and Dornier fleet with a Bombardier fleet.
SATA INSTALLS DEFIBRILLATORS ON BOARD
SATA becomes the first Portuguese airline to fully comply with the Portuguese National Plan for Automatic External Defibrillation. Licensed by the INEM, SATA installed defibrillators in all SATA Air Açores and SATA Internacional aircrafts, in order to ensure its passengers the best possible health and safety levels on board.
2012
SATA receives, for the third time, the international “Agility Award”.
Systems of Integrated Management of Health and Safety and Environmental Management receive APCER certification. SATA is the first Portuguese airline to obtain this qualification.
2013
Chairman of Grupo SATA elected to the board of AEA
The Chairman of Grupo SATA, António Menezes, was elected “Board member” of the Association of European Airlines – AEA – an NGO representing the interests in inter-European airline commerce of 50 regional European airlines and of over 100 organizations connected to aviation industry. AEA works to ensure with European political institutions approaches in the line of Regional European of commercial aviation regulations with economic and social benefits, as well as better jobs for the citizens of the European Union.
SATA awarded APCER certification
The Quality Management System of SATA Gestão de Aeródromos (Aerodrome Management) was awarded the ISO (International Organization for Standardization), certification following a demanding audit period in all its areas. The certification given by APCER (Portuguese Association for Certification) is in recognition for the commitment and work developed by all of SATA’s employees involved in SATA Gestão de Aeródromos and which is based on excellence and commitment in the service provided to the customers. SATA, therefore, joins the companies certified according with the ISO standard which assume the commitment with customers’ satisfaction and the improvement of the quality management system.
SATA got an honorable mention in the “Risk Management Innovation 2013” award, promoted by Açoreana de Seguros and by the newspaper “Diário Económico”. The company was part of the list of 14 finalists, among 100 candidates submitted to a strict process of evaluation on the best global performance in the different fields of risk management, from planning and evaluation to the management procedure, as well as the culture of risk present in the organization.

The islands airline. Today, SATA Air Açores offers service
with Bombardier Q400 NextGen and Bombardier Q200s aircraft. Each year the company operates approximately 14,000 flights, carrying 450,000 passengers (200,000 more than the current population of the Azores).
SATA Internacional
From the Azores to the World. Born in the Azores, its administrative base is in Ponta Delgada and it has one operational base in Lisbon. Grupo SATA’s youngest airline started air links in 1995 with the operation of charter flights between Madeira and several European cities. Later the company took over the air transport public service between the Azores and mainland Portugal.
Today it offers a vast network of regular routes in the North Atlantic, enlarging its regular flight operations with charter flights to many destinations.

SATA Gestão de Aeródromos
Founded in 2005, it runs four of the nine aerodromes on the Azorean islands. It inherited a legacy of know-how gained in over 50 years of ground support operations. SATA Gestão de Aeródromos now runs the aerodromes of Pico, Graciosa, Corvo and São Jorge, as well as the Flores Island terminal.
SATA Handling
With a vast know-how in land assistance to passengers, SATA offers a Handling service for all airlines that land at the Azorean airports. Ticket sales, arrivals and transfers, luggage service, check-in, boarding and take-offs, load control and communications, stopover control, supervision and representation, loading and unloading, and an endless number of services that allow any airline to land and take-off at any airport in the Azores, leaving SATA to assist their passengers and aircraft.
SATA Cargo
Besides passenger transport, Grupo SATA also offers cargo transport. This service, which has grown significantly in the last few years, offers air transport for all types of cargo, to anywhere in the world, swiftly, safely and efficiently.
